Sussex County United Brewers and Alchemists (SCUBA) and Morris Area Society of Homebrewers (MASH) joined together again this year to brew as one in celebration of the National Homebrew Day Big Brew at The Stirling Hotel in Stirling, NJ, on Saturday, 2 May 2015.
On a perfect spring day, 55 gallons of beer representing 8 different styles were created by 14 brewers using techniques ranging from extract, to emergency decoction step mash, to the infamous "there's still 89 minutes to go" extended boil. Dozens of brewers and spectators raised a glass for the worldwide National Homebrew Day Toast at 1PM. Thanks to everyone who came out and to the Stiriling Hotel for hosting.
Brewers are welcome to brew any style you like, but the American Homebrewers Association has posted recipes (extract and all-grain) for National Homebrewers Conference Award Winning beers including a Pale Ale, a Barleywine and a Kolsch. We will be brewing outside with access to hoses for chilling. We'll have a few tents for shade.
Everyone is welcome to stop by and hang out, even if you're not a club member or even a brewer. Learn how to brew from extract or grain, get ideas for new gear, and find ways to simplify (or complicate) your brewing set-up and procedure. But most of all, celebrate our local Homebrew Community with like minded folks!
We'll be brewing in the awesome "beer garden" behind the Stirling Hotel. The Stirling is a unique setting with a great outdoor area and a full service restaurant featuring a nicely curated selection of craft beer from near and far. The restaurant opens for lunch at 11:30. We'll be there rain or shine - there's a big tent set up for summer events, so we'll be covered in the case of rain!
The Stirling Hotel is located at 227 Main Avenue, Stirling, NJ. 908/647-6919
